Fried Green Tomatoes

Ingredients

Serves 4

• Vegetable or canola oil, for frying

• ½ cup whole milk

• 1 egg, beaten

• ½ cup all-purpose flour

• ½ cup unseasoned panko breadcrumbs

• ½ teaspoon kosher salt

• ½ teaspoon seasoned salt

• ½ teaspoon black pepper

• ¼ teaspoon garlic powder

• ¼ teaspoon onion powder

• 4 medium green tomatoes, cut into 1/3 inch thick slices

Directions

  1. Heat half an inch of oil in a deep skillet to 375 degrees F.
  2. As the oil heats, whisk the milk and beaten egg together in a shallow dish.
  3. Add the flour to another shallow dish.
  4. Transfer the breadcrumbs to a third shallow dish with the seasonings. Whisk to combine.
  5. Dredge each tomato slice in flour then dip in the milk and egg mixture before coating with the seasoned breadcrumbs.
  6. Fry the tomato slices in batches for 2 minutes per side or until golden and crispy.
  7. Transfer to paper towels to drain.
  8. Serve as desired.
